A Lesson in Sole Care

Dear Pastor Phill Hooper,

Please don’t ever change. We love your crazy ties (see page 4). We love your classroom jokes, especially on Monday mornings. But most of all, we love your work-appropriate “black shoes.” You are teaching a whole generation of students about sole care.

We know you’d rather wear some comfy athletic gear. In fact, we remember when your Saucony running shoes were part of your lecture wardrobe. And when your wife—the one you respect in all areas save her taste in men—boldly lectured you about wearing “black shoes,” you accommodated her with your Vibram FiveFingers sport shoes. Hey, she didn’t say “dress” shoes, right?

That’s what we love about you. Stay grounded, sir. And take care of your soles.
