Connecting to a Congregation—Sophia Lucht

At the end of my freshman year at FLBC, I was asked by Dr. Nathan Olson to apply for a job opening as office administrator at his church, Living Word Lutheran, in Eagan, Minn. I can only credit the Lord working in my heart through those around me at FLBC to bring me there.

My role at Living Word is pretty unique. I spend much of my time doing office work such as service prep, event planning, and working with Dr. Olson and various church committees. I also do a lot of parish work, especially with the older women and young girls in the congregation. I love to teach confirmation and Bible studies, go on the occasional home/hospital visit, and take ladies out for lunch or coffee.

If you would have asked me five years ago where I thought I would be in 2025, a church worker wouldn’t have even made it on the list of possibilities. However, I wouldn’t change a thing about where the Lord has led me. He was constantly working in my life and in my heart at FLBC, preparing me to take on a role such as this.

FLBC classes gave me a deep love for theology. I was encouraged by faculty, who were always willing to discuss theology both in and out of class. They grew to be close friends of mine and continue to support me as I work in the church and pursue higher theological education.

My heart for ministry has grown toward congregational education as I have come to appreciate the value of spending so much time learning about God’s Word. I love to share about the depth of the Bible’s message.

Through the close community of the school, the Lord also led me to many close friends. Today, though we attend various churches around the Twin Cities metro, we still stay in touch, getting together for weekly Bible studies and encouraging each other in our various vocations. They have truly shown me what it looks like to be a member of the Kingdom of God. This has been extremely valuable as I work in the congregation.

I am so thankful for the time I spent at FLBC. Because of the work of the Lord in my life through class, faculty, and friends, my focus and calling were brought to the glory and joy of the Gospel. I cannot wait to continue to share that joy wherever the Lord places me!
