Spotlight: Media is a free one-day conference for middle school and high school students and their families looking to navigate the media landscape with biblical discernment. We are excited to welcome our featured guests from World News Group. For 40 years World has produced sound journalism, grounded in facts and biblical truth.
Spotlight: Media will include a full day of opportunities. Register below for the portions of the day that work with your schedule.
10:00 AM – Navigating the News with Biblical Discernment
We need to see how God is at work in the world. And we need to fully rely on His Word to guide us through today’s news. Join chief content officer Nick Eicher and program co-host/reporter Myrna Brown from WORLD News Group as they discuss how to discern and sift through news media. Gain a fuller picture of what Biblically sound journalism means and what it looks like to renew your mind rather than conform to the (information-overload-laden) world.
12:00 PM – Lunch available for purchase in the FLBC dining hall
1:00 PM – 4:30 PM – Elective Sessions with FLBC faculty and staff including
- What’s Behind the Headline – When seeking truth in a culture of noise, it’s difficult to know where to begin. Join Adam Osier, Dean of the Free Lutheran Bible College, to learn four basic questions Christians can ask of every news headline and trending article to discern the worldview perspective of the author.
- Who Am I? Christian identity in a world saturated with social media – For many people, the voice that starts, ends, and occupies every day comes from a social media feed. Dr. Wade Mobley, President of FLBC, will teach students how to avoid some dangers of social media while establishing their identity in the work and word of Christ.
- Podcasting & Theology – This session will explore the relationship of teaching theology, especially through the catechetical method, and how non-traditional forms of media (like podcasts) are ready-made opportunities to teach and communicate biblical doctrine from Scripture.
- FLBC 101 – Answering your questions about admissions, transferrable college credits, and career discovery. Learn why many Christian students and families choose FLBC after high school grad.
4:30 – 6:30 PM – Dinner available for purchase from a variety of local food trucks
