FLBC Awards 2025-2026 Thorpe Leadership Scholars

The Thorpe Leadership Scholarship has been awarded to the 4th cohort of student leaders this spring, who will be granted the opportunity to receive supplementary leadership training with President Wade Mobley and read through and discuss J. Oswald Sanders’ Spiritual Leadership beginning fall of 2025.

The 2025-2026 Thorpe Leadership Scholarship recipients are thrilled to see how the Lord uses their time at FLBC and in the Leadership Cohort with President Wade Mobley.

“I’m super excited to grow close in community with this group and Dr. Wade Mobley! I look forward to learning the ins and outs of authentic Christian leadership and how to apply this role to my everyday interactions with others.” – Moriah Coyle (Rapid City, SD).

“Next year, I intend to continue to take advantage of the opportunities given to me here whatever they may be. I have learned better than to anticipate anything but God working in what is unknown to me now. I know without a doubt though that it will include His work in my life, and I desire to keep myself open to it.” – Isaiah Quanbeck (Moorhead, MN).

“The body of believers functions properly when members exercise their God-given gifts and build each other up. I’m excited to learn about how to more effectively lead those around me in a way leading to this end!” – Will Thorson (Sioux Falls, SD)

“I’m hoping to refine my leadership skills and learn how to use them to better help others.” – Sawyer Strand (Greenbush, MN)

“I am excited to learn more about what spiritual leadership looks like in practical ways and have the opportunity to put them into practice as I go through my second year at FLBC.”  – Hannah Bjorgaard (Newfolden, MN)

This investment in FLBC students who exemplify leadership qualities and academic rigor is not only for their benefit, but also for the building up of God’s Church through the local congregations for generations to come. Malena Dubovoy, graduate of the first FLBC Thorpe Leadership Cohort in 2023, wrote, “As I think back to my time at the Free Lutheran Bible College, one thing that stands out to me is the opportunity I had to spend mornings with fellow peers learning about what it looks like to be a leader and conversing with many knowledgeable individuals on what it looks like to hone leadership no matter where God places you. Spending time learning about what true Christian leadership looks like has changed the way I look at every aspect of my life. It has made a servant-hearted marriage seem an easier concept to grasp. It has made going the “extra mile” at work feel like a walk around the block. Being a part of the Thorpe Scholarship was a humbling experience, in recognizing all the more clearly God’s calling for us; To be His disciples wherever we go, with discipleship and leadership going hand in hand. How are we to disciple without the possibility of being an example of God’s love through leadership? What a way to show the love of God!”

Please be praying that the 2025-2026 Thorpe Leadership Cohort would be intentional in their leadership training and in the Lord’s calling on their lives.
