Dr. Ron Hunter—Banquet Address

The Friends of FLBCS Banquet brought nearly 150 dear friends of the Bible College and Seminary to campus on November 17. Throughout the evening, we heard from Dr. Ron Hunter, CEO of Randall House Publishing, President Wade Mobley, and students David Graves and Isaiah Miller.

We as a college and seminary were reminded of how blessed we are to have such dedicated support from friends, donors, and AFLC congregations. In spite of the national and global events of the last few years, God has been very faithful.

Our guest speaker, Ron Hunter began his address to the college by emphasizing the impact that Christian higher education can have on students’ lives. At FLBCS, we encourage students to not only study for exams, but also to engage with the material—God’s Word—and allow it to influence how they see and interact with the world.

At the same time, Hunter challenged FLBCS and its supporters to be willing to adapt and change. The message of the Gospel is unchanging—and just as relevant as ever—but our world is not the same as 10, 20, or 50 years ago. Today’s young people face new and different challenges than their parents did. As the culture around them shifts, so must our methods for discipleship, engagement, and recruitment.

He encouraged us as Christians, and as an institution, to be “thermostats, not thermometers”. Through the power of Christ, our job is to effect change, rather than just reflect change in the world around us. That requires us to stay current on the issues that plague our culture today, and to stay grounded in the eternal truths of God’s word.
