Gospel Sing-a-long

The Heritage Hall upper lobby has hosted many scenes over the years. Quiet study sessions. Rowdy socializing. Even bluegrass Southern gospel sing-alongs. That last one is a more recent addition, thanks to Alec Oppegard, a self-taught guitarist with a love for slightly off-key harmonizing. Just for fun, Alec often brings his guitar to community time, strums a few bars, and then leads whoever is willing in a round of “Blessed Assurance … Victory in Jesus … I’ll Fly Away,” each song blending into another. And why does he do it? He loves the fellowship, but admits, “When I get a girlfriend I want to be able to tell her that I play the guitar.” Ladies?
