“I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the lowest pit.
You have heard my voice…” (Lamentations 3:55–56a)
The prophet Jeremiah ministered in a most difficult time and to a most difficult people, and in the midst of all this we see a prophet who all the more sought God through prayer. For Jeremiah, past deliverances gave cause for present hope, and there was no place so far removed from God that He does not hear. May we find encouragement in his example, affirming again that there is never an inopportune time to pray, for we serve a God who delights in the prayers of His children. As you approach the Lord’s throne of grace through prayer in these next weeks, please call forth the following intercessions:
Good memory and recall for our students as they prepare for final exams and that the learning received this year would result in both temporal and eternal blessing. And for our graduates in particular that God’s will and leading would be made clear to them as they pursue the next step of the journey set before them.
Students, parents, families, and alumni as they gather on our Schools’ campus May 19 – 20 for graduation weekend, as well as the Spring Concert that Friday evening. May God’s faithfulness especially be acknowledged as we witness His good work amongst us!
The hosting on campus of the 2017 Annual Conference, June 13-16, under the theme of “Here I Stand”, based on Romans 1:16-17. We ask that God lead many to attend, and that all be blessed and encouraged in this time of fellowship, reflection, worship, prayer, thanksgiving, and planning.
The call of Brad and Sarah Bierle to serve as Men’s and Women’s Resident Heads. God is to be praised in this provision, and prayer is sought as they acclimate to our campus and living in the States after serving as missionaries in Ecuador in the spiritual life and formation area of an International School in Quito. Formerly from Sioux Falls, the Bierle’s will summer in South Dakota and transition to AFLBS for an August 1 start date.
Continued strong giving, individually and congregationally, to our AFLC. As we praise God for overall giving that remains strong, we observe that on a year over year basis general giving is down when we consider specific gifts to projects over the last two years.
Wisdom for the Board of Trustees and Schools’ Corporation as they move ahead with building plans and fund raising for the addition of a gymnasium and dormitory to our campus.
The AFLBS Alumni Association’s two-day summer “Alumni and Friends” event scheduled for Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29. This event features a Golf Scramble, proceeds of which benefit AFLBS student scholarships, and we seek many to participate and all be blessed and encouraged in this opportunity.
Churches that are currently experiencing pastoral vacancy. May their call teams be granted wisdom, insight, and patience as they wait upon the LORD, and may the will of God be accomplished in the lives of those men seeking a call to a congregation.
On behalf of the Intercessor Team,
Pastor Kirk Flaa
