My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing in thanksgiving.
– Colossians 2:2-3, 6-7
Gratitude was so important for Jewish life in Old Testament that the Hebrew root words for “giving thanks” are closely related to the word used to define who they were as a people – Jewish. A spirit of gratitude defines a child of God who treats confession and thanksgiving as important aspects of faith and worship. As we depend on God we will offer daily gratitude to Him who daily loads us with blessings. Gratefulness becomes a constant habit and attitude, a way of life, while growing in our understanding of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge found only in Christ.
