Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord! —Psalm 25: 3-7 (ESV)
Dear Praying Friends of Free Lutheran Bible College and Seminary:
Each fall I am reminded of the first time I arrived on campus. It was nearly 30 years ago now, somehow. I was 22, having attended four years of a public college in South Dakota. My initial impression was, “I like these people. They are different in a good way.” My second impression was, “These 18-year-olds sometimes act like… 18-year-olds.” Both of these still hold true today.
But my lasting impression went something like this: “They really like the Bible around here. I mean, REALLY.” That is still true, too.
It is important to note, though, that we don’t “like” the Bible out of preference or habit. We use the Bible as our primary textbook because real life is much more than a career path. In a time when people see college as just a way to get a certification to get a job to make money, we see higher education as a much greater opportunity— an opportunity to be established in God’s Word for life in Jesus Christ.
The Bible isn’t just “our way of looking at the world,” but a statement of reality. The Word of God tells us about God and the world that God has made— the world in which we live. I have included in this installment a booklet (or picture of a page spread, if you get this by email) that shows you all our classes. It’s exciting to be part of this.
In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Wade Mobley
