Intercessor Team Update – September

Dear Praying Friends of Free Lutheran Bible College and Seminary:

Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
– Psalm 32:10-11 (ESV)

You have likely heard that this was a rough couple of weeks for our nation and the Minneapolis area. We do not feel unsafe day-to-day, and safety may itself become an idol, but every one of us is heartbroken over the manifest evil that becomes evident in our world every day. It stings a little deeper when these things happen nearby. I could imagine that such unwanted publicity makes recruiting and marketing a Bible College in Minneapolis a little more difficult.

We are a Bible College in Plymouth, and a rather successful seminary for training pastors for the association of Free Lutheran congregations. The answer for Minneapolis, Plymouth, the whole world, or wherever you live, is the Lord God who has given us his word to study. The answer is Jesus, and we get to establish students in the word of God for life in Jesus Christ so that they will be ready to respond wisely when anything happens.

Many people have rejected Christ because of pain and suffering in the world. This is the tragedy. When they reject Christ because of pain and suffering in the world they are left with pain and suffering without Christ. There is no darker place to be. Students trained at our school are less likely to capitulate to such silliness, and they are also well equipped to help others in their times of need.

In this month’s intercessor letter, I will give you a course listing so you can see what our students are learning right now. And I will also close with some prayers and praises. Thank you so much for loving the school and praying for our students and program.

In Christ,
Pastor Wade

Praise God for:

  • 135 students (112 undergraduate and 23 seminary) studying on our campus right now
  • Dedicated faculty and staff getting us off to a good start
  • AFLC leadership that helps FLBCS minister to students
  • A great ABHE (Association for Biblical Education) site visit— very encouraging analysis of our progress
  • A successful (and first ever) annual fund, which raised 110% of our goal, $1.41M to support students on our campus

Please pray:

  • A great start to the school year
  • Bible college students adjusting to life away from home
  • Seminarians beginning/continuing their training toward being a pastor
  • Interns finishing their pastoral training
  • Congregations who are waiting for a pastor
  • Recent graduates who are applying our teaching to contexts away from campus
  • Next year’s first year Bible College class (we would love to see 65-70 incoming)
  • Our Board, including one new member (Erling Langness) and two new members to be elected next year
  • Protection and provision for our faculty, staff and administration
  • Our nation and leaders: https://flbc.edu/reflections-on-the-death-of-charlie-kirk/
