Mochi Munchies

The temperature outside may be hovering around 5 degrees Fahrenheit, but that won’t stop our students from craving ice cream. Though we have to admit, their penchant for Japanese Mochi is new.

It all started when FLBC junior Lydia Carr arrived on campus last fall. As a last family outing together, her parents treated her to the little bundles of flavored cold treats wrapped in rice paper. She was hooked and started taking her new friends along to the local grocery store.

“I think it was something I did to remind me of them,” said Carr of her parents, who live in western North Dakota.

Now, Carr and her friends enjoy flavors such as mango, green tea, and chocolate espresso at least twice a month—usually around payday.
