Tomasz (FLBC class of 2001, FLS 2006) and Miriam (FLBC class of 2003) Chmiel have been serving in Ukraine as full-time missionaries since 2008, and joined Josiah Venture in 2010. While both FLBC alumni grew up in the Czech Republic, Tomasz was raised in a Polish family, and the two met in Minnesota and were married in Wisconsin. The Chmiel family of 6 now reside in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.
Tomasz and Miriam are passionate about investing in the local churches in Ukraine and encouraging and equipping young leaders in central and eastern Europe to be involved with missions. Their time at FLBCS has served to prepare them for this calling and equipped them to carry out their passion. Their focus on “European Camps” ministry helps them fulfill their God-given call to bring the youth into the Kingdom. The Chmiels in a recent email update recapped the summer; “we praise God for 15 EU camps and over 70 volunteers who came to serve nearly 900 Ukrainian young people this summer.”
They now host and serve alongside another FLBC grad from the class of 2024, Ellen Dalager, who has been a wonderful help, teacher, and fellow servant in the mission of sharing the Gospel in Ukraine. Tomasz, reflecting on the Lord’s life-giving provision for them and their community through Ellen said, “We never cease to marvel at how God’s hand is in everything connected with Ellen. For example, “it just happened” that the first time Ellen was supposed to go to a shelter during a bombing in Lviv also “happened” to be the first time our neighbor Natalia and her little boy went to the shelter alone without her husband. So, God used Ellen to be there with her!” Praise the Lord for all that He is doing among the nations!
FLBCS not only provided a firm foundation of faith for the Chmiel’s and Ellen but also backed them with a community of believers who encourage and pray for each other. Please continue to pray for the ministry happening in Ukraine and learn more here: Tomasz Chmiel – Josiah Venture
