The Story

In early November we enjoyed our third annual Friends of the Schools Banquet. Nearly 500 students and guests listened to John Stonestreet speak at the banquet or during a student assembly the next day. Stonestreet leads the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, and you can hear him regularly on podcasts like “BreakPoint” or “The World and Everything In It.” Stonestreet reminded us that, while it is difficult to thrive as a Christian in today’s culture, we live in just a moment of the story of God. If we are to be prepared to live in this moment, or any other, we must understand His story.

“Anyone not immersed in the Scriptures will be incapable of handling the challenges of our cultural moment,” said Stonestreet.

At the Free Lutheran Schools we have taught God’s story to more than 2,500 students over the last 54 years. We have established those students in the eternal and inerrant word of God for a life of faith in Jesus Christ and faithful service in His kingdom. Students start at AFLBS then go anywhere, grounded in God’s Word. At AFLTS God equips servant leaders for free and living congregations.

In these pages you will hear from current students who are being equipped to thrive, not just survive, wherever they go in life. You will learn how God is moving the Schools forward to the next chapters of ministry at the Bible college and seminary. Maybe you will be encouraged to dig into God’s Word for yourself, right where you are, today. If you’re going to thrive in the moment, you have to understand the story.

Save the date for next year’s Friends of the Schools Banquet, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 7.
