Dr. James Molstre

Seminary Dean

“The call to seminary is the call to prepare. The seminary serves the congregation; therefore, our preparation is uniquely designed to teach men to ‘shepherd the flock’” 1 Peter 5:2.

Program Overview

FLS offers a Master of Divinity (M.Div) degree in a three-year residential format. This is followed by a one-year internship in a Free Lutheran congregation, with an experienced AFLC pastor as supervisor.

Academics

Seminary training promotes educational excellence while cultivating the highest quality of personal devotional life. The core curriculum gives graduates a foundational understanding of the Bible, theology, church history, Christian ethics, and the practical skills necessary for various facets of pastoral ministry.
The Free Lutheran Seminary stands in the tradition of orthodox Lutheran pietism. A high view of Scripture dictates an emphasis on exegetical courses.

Student Life

All classes at FLS are taken in-person. As students study the Bible together, relationships grow. Each morning begins with a student-led devotional and prayer time. Scheduled and informal community times keep students connected as they encourage each other in their preparation for future ministry.
