Summer Institute of Theology is an annual in-person lecture event focused on practical theology and ministry. Each year, we hear from a great lineup of FLBCS faculty and guest lecturers. After class each day, enjoy networking with ministry leaders, and experience the close-knit community of FLBCS!

• Gospel of Matthew — Rev. Alex Amiot ⏷Details⏷

An exegetical study of passages from Matthew’s account of the life of the saving and reigning Christ Jesus.

Session B (Choose 1)

• Pastor as Theologian — Dr. Nathan Olson ⏷Details⏷

Does the pastor have a responsibility to be a theologian? This course will establish foundational frameworks for pastor-theologians as they shepherd the flock of God, including law/Gospel, two kinds of righteousness, two kingdoms, and vocation.

• Planning and Leading a Worship Service — Andrew Hanson ⏷Details⏷

This class will examine variables around the structure of a worship service and selecting service elements, with a strong emphasis on musical selection and considerations. We will give practical discussion to service leading, crossing multiple styles of worship.

Session C (Choose 1)

• Cultivating a Gospel Culture in the Congregation — Dr. Craig Johnson ⏷Details⏷

Every congregation has a culture. A culture that is shaped by and centered on the gospel is a beautiful thing. This course will consider how gospel leadership and gospel teaching and preaching leads to gospel culture in a congregation.

History and Aims of the AFLC —Dr. Marty Horn ⏷Details⏷

A study of the historical background of the AFLC with its roots in evangelical Lutheran pietism and the former Lutheran Free Church in America. Special attention is given to the "Fundamental Principles."
