If you were to tell me a year ago that my first year at the Free Lutheran Bible College would end online because of a global pandemic, I would have thought you were crazy. But this is the reality of this school year. Back in March, FLBC made the difficult announcement that they were going to move school online and move everyone out of the dorms. While this was tough for me to accept, I knew that the college made the appropriate decision.  

After the announcement was made, I had to face two changes that were extremely challenging for me. The first was saying goodbye to my close friends and moving home earlier than expected. The second was even more challenging. The transition from in-person classes to online classes was a difficult adjustment for me as each teacher had their own unique way of teaching online. Some teachers created PowerPoint presentations with voice-overs to go along with the slides; some teachers used video or voice-recorded lectures; and some teachers hosted live Zoom meetings for students to attend.  

While adjusting both my life and work schedule to align with the new school schedule was tough, the things I learned at FLBC this year helped guide me through these changes. As I faced these changes, I was reminded of the many stories in the Bible of people in distress who were helped by God. I remembered the struggles the Israelites faced during the Exodus and how God was always with them. This brought great comfort to me. Deuteronomy 33:12 speaks of  the peace God gives us if we ask Him for it,  

“… The beloved of the Lord dwells in safety. The High God surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders.”
